Midnight Holo

Hello there!

After seeing a bazillion A-England Tristam swatches, I knew what I wanted. BUT I'm skint and currently on a 'no buy' ban til after Christmas. Being a student and having a unhealthy love of expensive polish is a not just a bad mix, it's a damn travesty! There is so many polishes I want right now. My budget just doesn't stretch far enough.

So I needed an alternative until January arrives. I dug out one of my favourite gorgeous blue shimmers, Rimmel - Midnight Blue. I painted 2 coats then used 1 coat of my home made holographic topcoat.

These pics were taken on a sunny but very misty day, as the sun was setting. My camera wasn't picking up the gorgeous holo-y effect I was seeing. So I decided to take some indoor flash shots for you all.

Darker then Tristam I think from the web pics? but I love this combo! I had this on for 3 days, I lurvvve it so much. It looks much linear in reality. THEN I thought well...while I'm at it, why not an attempt at a duochrome-holo like an Ozotic Pro Mish Mash? (another polish collection that I will never see *sob*).

Rimmel Midnight Blue + Holo Topcoat + 1 coat Red-Green Colour Changing Topcoat.

I've been seeing  a lot of Galaxy Nails posts in the 31 day nail challenge. I haven't got the patience or skills to attempt the challenge, but I think this wouldn't be a bad 'Galaxy Nails' mani.

What do you all think? Sorry for the huge amount of pics, I get a little over excited :-D

Illamasqua Scarab vs MUA Shade 7

Hello Everyone

Remember I showed you my spider Halloween mani a couple weeks back with Illamasqua Scarab? Well I thought I would show you a Scarab comparison with one of MUA polishes, Shade 7. Why? Because Shade 7 is a whole lot easier to find.

Illamasqua Scarab is on my middle finger, the rest are painted with MUA Shade 7. Only 1 coat of each. Not bad coverage from either. Scarab was clearly a better formula, Shade 7 applied slightly streaky. Scarab is darker and richer, and also contains more golden shimmer. MUA Shade 7 isn't a bad polish though by any means, great value for its price (just £1) plus it's on the same wave length to Scarab. In fact I really love Shade 7. AND guess what? I made a spectraflair franken with these two juicy polishes. I haven't swatched it yet, but keep posted! the first sunny day I get I'll be out in the garden with my camera :-)

Once again I tried my red-green colour changing topcoat, just to see how it would look. So far every time I've used it, it has completely changed the tone of the base polish. I wanted to see how it would work with a red based polish.

Not a bad huh? The lovely winner of my giveaway won a bottle of this, so hopefully she'll like it :-)

Take care and thanks for reading peeps

Leighton Denny - Your Planet Or Mine

Evening Everyone!

Hope everyone is well! I'm currently in the process of procrastination, as I have an annotated bibliography to begin for University this week. Yawn, much rather talk polish. Today I have for you a polish from Leighton Denny's Atmospheric Collection - Your Planet Or Mine, Described as 'Oil-on-water effect polish with purple, brown, blue and green undertones'. I would say a teal/blue/purple duochrome. Didn't see any brown in there? It also looks a heck different in real life compared to the picture on Leighton Denny's website. It reality the teal is a lot darker.

This is super fab fab fab. I know, another duochrome! This looks so gorgeous on. The formula was amazing as well. This is 2 coats. I couldn't capture the full awesomeness of the duochrome, but it is there! Promise.

Now because I like meddling in everything, I decided to try out a topcoat I made using my spectraflair and some clear polish. Here is the result.

What do you think? The topcoat was slightly silvery over Your Planet or Mine, but looked holo delicious in the light. This will keep me going until I can get my hands on some Glitter Gal - Lizard
Belly. Price for a Leighton Denny polish? £11 each, but you can pick up a bargain on Ebay.

Oh well, I better start some studying now :-(
Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Topshop - Poison Ivy

Howdy Peoples

Green polish today! They cheer me up. I've been sporting China Glaze Westside Warrior mostly this week and I loves it. Now, a different kinda green...Topshop - Poison Ivy. A deep green shimmer, has an almost glass flecked  appearance, well contains smaller particles then say Zoya Edyta? (dunno if I'm making sense or talking doo doo but I shall continue)

Superb pigmentation in this one, only required 2 coats, and I was being extra again. Love the blackened look of Poison Ivy, the name reminds me of Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy Character in Batman and Robin.

Well, I couldn't leave it alone could I. Poison Ivy presented me with a marvelous opportunity to try my Colour Changing Topcoat on a dark green.

Again like my other experiments with this topcoat it changed the tone of Poison Ivy when layered over the top. Really complex I think, If your a fan of dark murky polishes, you might like this combo. I loved it (of course).

So was I done? Who Me? Never? I then went into a wild frenzy and decided that I needed something more...''Flakies!'' I told myself practically frothing at the mouth, ''I need flakies!!!''...So I then went a bit stupid and added a coat of Nubar 2010.

It actually didn't go too bad. A tad to far perhaps, but he who dares and all that malarky.

What do you think? Ever gone a step too far with a wild layering frenzy?

Topshop Smoke and Mirrors Nail Polish - Fallen Leaf

Evening Everyone!

How are you all? Today I have the third polish from Topshop's Smoke and Mirrors collection - Fallen Leaf. A lovely dusty green creme polish.

In Sunlight

In Shade

Closeup

Formula was once again good on this one and really opaque. This is two coats with one coat of Nubar Diamont Topcoat. Overall I think this collection is one of the best seasonal releases around, the colours are sport on. I haven't yet been able to get my hands on Prim and Proper, the pink polish in this collection but hopefully I can get that one soon. The price however of these polishes are a bit steep, £6 per polish and only 8ml yikes.

These aren't yet available on the US Topshop website. For some reason none of Topshop's nail polishes are not available on this site, not sure of the reasons why? The rest of the Smoke and Mirror collection like their Glow highlighter are though. After applying Fallen Leaf I was intrigued to see what effect I would get applying a coat of my Colour Changing topcoat.

Once again, I'm liking how the topcoat changes the tone of this polish. I like it over purple better, but it's definitely an alternative!

So whats been your favourite Topshop Smoke and Mirrors shade so far?
