I'm currently completing my university papers for my final submission. It's killing me, why I ever chose to do a degree is beyond me?? So if I go missing in action and I haven't posted in a while you know why, I'm slogging my guts getting my essays done. Anyhoo I thought I would share with you a recent layering combo I've been sporting. I think I've said it before but procrastination is a wonderful thing.
First up two coats of Color Club's Bluetopia. A rich black inky blue, be warned though you need a base coat with this one.
Then one coat of NYX Wild, here it is on its own. A sheer blue with green shimmer.
Together = A pretty combination.
I liked this mani a lot. If you was using NYX Wild on its own, you would a 3-4 coats for a full opaque look. Layering it over a darker color I think is much more effective. Any dark colour would do. Plus Wild is very cheap, about £1.99. I got mine from Fragrance Direct online here.
First post of official 'Spring' and it's so warm here in London. Loving it. Today I have for you another Glitter Gal holographic polish, this time Copper.
This is 3 coats. Not as opaque as some of the other holos in the collection, still rather pretty don't you think? Copper 3D holographic is a light rose copper holo. More of a rose then copper. The holographic effect it quite strong, stronger then my camera would pick up.
Hope your all enjoying the sunshine where you are!
Hope your all good. Today I have one of the LA Girl Metal collection colours to show you - Metallic Olive. Got this a while back from Beauty Base in Westfields Stratford. I picked up this and one other which for the life of me I can't remember the name of??

Excuse the purple stained cuticles. This is 3 coats of Metallic Olive, a forest green metallic polish. Very similar in finish to LA Colors - Catus. The metallic finish is actually made up of tiny shimmer particles, giving a flecked textured look. Formula gave me no issues and was a total bargain at £1.99.
How's it popping? Hope your all good. Today I have some swatches of Cult Nail's - Toxic Seaweed. This is a first Cult Nails purchase for me, I ordered this and Iconic.
This is 3 coats of Toxic Seaweed, a green based jelly containing glitter and flakies. Like the combination of this one. The green has a slight teal tone and the glitter and orange flakes really work. I struggled on application though, it's slightly sheer and does require a couple of coats to build up. Maybe this is due to it having all this wonderful glitter and flakes, the suspension base I suppose needs to be quite thick. I would recommend layering this over a suitable colour or letting the layers completely dry before adding coats.
Overall I love Toxic Seaweed, the fact it's a glitter/flakie polish which is green gets a massive thumbs up in my books and totally original in my stash. Available online at Cult Nails for $10.00 (around £7.50) although it is a limited shade.
Welcome, welcome, welcome. Today's topic, a comparison of Nfu.Oh 51 and Max Factor Fantasy Fire. It took me a long while to resist the urge not to buy the notorious Nfu.Oh flakie 51. Of course I finally caved in. Imagine my annoyance when I heard that combining Max Factor's new Fantasy Fire with some flakies could recreate the wondrous glowing flakiness which the '51' possesses. Only one way to find out, in the words of Harry Hill...Fight!! No? well a comparison it shall be.

Nfu.Oh 51 is on all but my ring finger. My ring finger has one coat of Max Factor's Fantasy fire, then one coat of Nubar 2010. All combinations have been layered over one coat of H and M's Notoriously Beautiful, as both Fantasy Fire and 51 are quite sheer. As you can see the Fantasy Fire/2010 combo gives a very similar effect to Nfu.Oh's 51. Not total dupes, Nfu.Oh 51 has more of that glowing iridescent pink shimmer, but if your looking for a cheaper alternative (Nfu.Oh retails for £14.95 here in the UK) then this could be your answer.
And don't forget, I have a bottle of Fantasy Fire for grabs in my Spring Giveaway!!

Something exciting today, a swatch of one of the nail polishes in the new Human Fundamentalism collection - Nomad. I was lucky enough to get this shade in my goody bag.

This is two coats of Nomad - a minted jade colour creme. Application wise, perfect in two coats, like most Illamasqua's, the formula is bang on. Really like this colour, I don't have many greens like this in my collection as I'm usually a fan of darker more forest greens. This however is a real 'Brit Festival' kinda colour , a shade which will go perfect with my festival attire of wellies, trilby hat and tan (given the sunshine of course). Nomad is a very vibrant mint green, not washed out at all. More of a neon then an ice cream mint and I'm glad it doesn't give me the dreaded 'red claw' effect. So while your knee deep in mud listening to your favourite band, least your nails will look immaculate.
Yesterday I had the amazing pleasure at being invited to Illamasqua's SS12 Collection Launch - Human Fundamentalism. With Milkshake, Cherry Aid and some retro sweets to great me at the entrance, I knew I was in for more than one treat.
The new collection consists of 11 pieces. Two Eye shadow Palettes consisting of four colours each of varying textures. Six Powder Eye Shadows, A Precision Ink pen (Pure White), Two new Varnishes and Two new Lipsticks and a Limited Edition Skin Base Foundation (AU - Dark tan with gold shimmer). Upon arrival I immediately recognised myself as a little fish in a big pond, and the other fishes has massive posh cameras in comparison to my piddly Samsung camera. So images are not the greatest.
Fundamental Palette - Liquid Metal in Surge (Molten Pewter), Cream Pigment in Bedaub (Mint Green), Powder Eye Shadows in Hype (Bold Yellow) and Inception (Violet).
Powder Eye Shadow - Vernau (Peanut), Cancan (Lilac), Sex (White), Burst (Teal), Obsidian (Black) and Pivot (Yellow Green)
Nail Varnish - Nomad (Jade) and Stance (Bright Mauve).
Lipstick - Apocalips (Bright Teal) and Box (Deep Scarlet)
Nails used within the Human Fundamentalism shoot created by the lovely Rebecca Jade Wilson.
Some Bling
After hearing the title 'Human Fundamentalism' for Illamasqua's new collection a couple weeks back. I had no idea where Illamasqua was going with this one. However the new collection is amazing, with of course the new nail polishes being my favourite. The collection does indeed have an 'Urban Tribe' feel to it, and is a a mixture of tribal, modern culture with a hit of colouful psychedelica.
Collection available for pre-order today from Illamasqua online.
I know I shouldn't wish my life away, but I love it when it hits the end of the week and I can just chill. Today I have the last polish in the Boots 17 Spring nail collection - Spring Petal.
This is 2 coats of Spring Petal. I struggled with the consistency of this one, quite thick. Much more a creme then a shimmer, and not so jelly like in comparison to Juicy. Spring Petal is a pinkish coral creme containing pink shimmer. Reminds me of a pink rose, for a pink I quite like it.
Today was a glorious sunny day here in London. Spring was definately in the air. First day I've gone to University without a jacket. Today's swatch is definitely fitting in with the weather, Boots 17 - Mellow Yellow.

The flash shots give a more accurate colour of Mellow Yellow. This is 3 coats. Formula was slightly thick but not too bad. It actually applied better then Juicy did. Mellow Yellow is a yellow (obviously) creme containing yellow shimmer. This screams Spring, I think this may be my second favourite out of the collection. Also loving the name, it's not original but it reminds me of that song by Donovan.
